INTERNATIONAL POLO GROOM COURSE

If one of the above questions is right for you, then join this course. You will get all you need to know to work professionally with Polo Horses. Certified by the Royal Spanish Polo Federation and the Argentina Polo Academy. The course will be held in English and Spanish simultaneously and covers the following topics:
Polo Groom Course
- Importance and profile of the Polo Groom
- Correct preparation of the polo horse
- Different mouth pieces, saddles, etc
- Basic anatomy, defining colors, dental age definition
- Equine behaviour, managing herds and special horses
- Caring for tack, installations, hygiene and stable management
- Equine nutrition, gastrointestinal deseases
- Preparation and working with a farrier, hoof deseases
- Basic veterinary medicine, first aid, preventing accidents
- Training and education of a polo horse
- Special experiences of polo grooms
- Technical polo expressions in english / spanish
Advanced Polo Groom Course (with polo)
- All content of the basic course
- in addition: practical formation in polo – polo technique, polo riding technique, rules & tactics.
All advanced training classes are personalized – starting from the level where you are
Limited places
You´ll receive a lot of hands on practical training in this course. To ensure the best outcome for all participants, there is only a limited amount of spots available. Usually there are 4 places per course.

The location
The new “Polo Off Shore location”, the Trafalgar Polo Club near Palmar/Conil/Vejer in Andalusia, South of Spain, Europe. It is situated amidst pure Andalusian nature less than 50mts from one of the last virgin beaches called Playa Mangueta, part of the beautiful Costa de la Luz. The perfect place to work with horses.
Accommodation
You can choose between several options for accomodation:
– Trafalgar Polo Hotel, the club owned beautiful boutique hotel right next to the polo field and the beach (around EUR 100,- to 350,-/night/room)
– accommodation in the Polo Camp (comfortable tipi tents in the club right next to the horses) (EUR 45,-/night/person)
– accommodation in a hostal or guest house nearby (about 5mins drive or 15 mins walk) (around EUR 50-150,-/night/room)
Who it´s for?
The course is designed for people who aim to work as a polo groom, either as their profession or as an occasional job. It is also designed for horse lovers and polo players who would like to get a deeper knowledge about polo horses and how to successfully care for them.
Participants must be at least 16 years old with secondary school completed and should have some experience with handling horses.
Arrival
There are 3 international airports: Jerez de la Frontera (1h), Gibraltar (1,5hs) and Seville (2hs) close by. If you do not want to rent a car the Academy is happy to organize a private transfer for you.
Duration + Methodology
The one week course starts on Mondays at 10am and ends on Saturday afternoon. You´ll receive 5 hours/day training for the Polo Groom Course and 2hours/day extra for the advanced Polo Groom Course. Tuition is based on theory lessons combined with practical exercises. Team and individual assignments/exercises and a final oral/practical exam on Saturday. Each participant will be supported to achieve the necessary knowledge to pass the exam. You will work with professional Argentine horse breakers & grooms and the Academies polo equine vet.
For the one month course the starting date can be arranged within the available months. You will participate in the Polo-Working-Experience and get on top all the information and teaching of the International Polo Groom Course. You can also include polo classes and tuition (= the Advanced Polo Groom Course) and decide beforehand about the amount of polo classes you would like to get. During the course you will get a 50% discount for all classes and chukkers.
What to bring
Please bring shoes and cloths for outdoor activities. For accomodation in the bell tents please bring a sleeping bag and a camping mat. For the advanced polo groom course please bring your riding boots (or trainers). If you have your own helmet and own mallets you are welcome to bring those also. All other riding equipment will be provided by the academy.

Tuition
Price per person: EUR 1.450,- (Polo Groom Course – 1 week or 1 month) EUR 1.950,- (Advanced Polo Groom Course – one week program)
Included: the complete course, course materials, exam, certificate. Final Argentine asado.
Exluded: VAT, food, accommodation, travel.
For the Advanced Training Polo Groom:
Personal health insurance (valid for Spain) and membership in the Spanish Polo Federation (approx. EUR 100,-) is mandatory, the membership includes the Polo Accident Insurance and is good for the whole calendar year and for all Spanish Polo Clubs. The Academy will help you to sign up.
Payment+ cancellation policy:
Deposit for registration: 25%. Final payment until arrival via bank transfer/paypal or cash on arrival. Please note that you cannot start the course without completion of payment. The payment is not refundable. In case of not being able to attend or in case you need to shorten your stay you will receive a voucher for the missing value. Minimum and maximum attendance requirements exist for all courses. Argentina Polo Academy reserves the right to cancel or change any scheduled activities due to lack of enrollment, unforeseen weather conditions, etc.
